Tracy’s City Attorney, Daniel Sodergren, has announced that he has accepted the position of City Attorney with the City of Pleasanton. Sodergren has close to 30 years of legal experience, and began his career with the City of Tracy in 2005.
“Working for the City of Tracy over the last 11 years has been a very rewarding experience. I have been fortunate to be able to work with such a dedicated and talented team of City staff,” stated Mr. Sodergren.
In the City Attorney’s Office, Mr. Sodergren developed and managed a team of legal talent with a practice active in a range of local government issues, many having to do with development and land use. Mr. Sodergren has also been responsible for all litigation and providing legal advice to the City Council, including but not limited to those related to planning, land use, CEQA, initiatives, elections and utilities.
“While I am happy for Dan’s sake that he is able to take advantage of this excellent professional opportunity that will be of great benefit to him and his family, I hate to lose him as an integral part of Tracy city government,” stated Tracy Mayor, Michael Maciel. “I have come to rely on Dan not only for his legal guidance but as a team member that has always understood the big picture when it comes helping us all serve this community.”
Sodergren previously served as City Attorney and Assistant City Attorney for the City of Livermore and as Special Counsel for the cities of Palo Alto and Oakland. He began his career as a law clerk and served in that capacity in Palo Alto, Santa Clara and San Jose. While in Livermore, Sodergren was involved in the redevelopment of downtown Livermore and the initial phase of Livermore’s Downtown Specific Plan.
Mr. Sodergren is anticipated to begin his duties in Pleasanton on May 16, 2016.
