Arbor Day Foundation Names City of Tracy - Tree City USAPosted: Feb 18, 2016
Location: Tracy, Calif.
The City of Tracy was named a 2015 Tree City USA in recognition of its commitment to effective urban forest management. The City achieved this designation by meeting the Tree City USA program requirements: a tree board or department, a tree-care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.
“Trees provide many aesthetic, health and environmental benefits - all which contribute to the quality of life in our community,” stated Don Scholl, Public Works Director. “Our tree maintenance program continues to make tremendous strides, and designation as a Tree City USA is further proof of our commitment. The recently formed Tracy Tree Foundation is an indication that our residents also support a healthy urban forest.”
The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters.
“Everyone benefits when elected officials, volunteers and committed citizens in communities like Tracy make smart investments in urban forests,” stated Matt Harris, chief executive of the Arbor Day Foundation. “Trees bring shade to our homes and beauty to our neighborhoods, along with numerous economic, social and environmental benefits.”
