Make a Difference Day 2012 Recycle & RedeemPosted: Oct 10, 2012
(Tracy, CA) – The Tracy Youth Advisory Commission (YAC) encourages the Tracy community to join them to “Recycle & Redeem” from October 20 – 27 at the West Valley Mall. This year’s ‘Make a Difference Day’ campaign focuses on two goals; environmental stewardship and giving back to local charities.
To accomplish these goals, the YAC is providing four plastic bottle-recycling bins at the West Valley Mall food court from October 20-27. Each bin represents one of four main high schools (Kimball, Millennium, Tracy and West High). In the spirit of competition, residents can place plastic bottles for recycling in one of the bins, representing their love for the high school and of the earth.
The YAC will redeem the bottles and tally the results to see whose school community shows the most spirit. Proceeds from donated plastic bottles will benefit local charities Tracy Interfaith and Military Moms of Tracy.
According to YAC CommissionerArashpreet Gill, “We are trying to encourage school spirit and greening Tracy by collecting at least 1,000 bottles per high school. Every little bit counts towards making a difference in our community and in our world.”
YAC teens will be present at the West Valley Mall in the food court on Saturday, October 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to accept plastic bottle donations and discuss with the community ways to “Make a Difference.”
The event will conclude with a large collection and tally event on Saturday, October 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
