City Seeks Naming Nominations For Youth Sports FieldsPosted: Oct 22, 2012
October 22, 2012 (TRACY, CA) – The City of Tracy seeks nominations from the Tracy Community for the naming of the new youth sports fields under construction at the intersection of Tracy Blvd. and Sugar Rd. The project is located on a parcel of land previously owned by the Spreckles Sugar Company (“Holly Sugar”).
A subcommittee of the Parks Commission will receive and review all nominations. The below criteria will be used to rate the submissions:
• Historical significance
• Geographic significance/location
• Name significance to the complex functionality (youth sports leagues)
• Individual or family history/significance in Tracy
The commission will present final recommendations to City Council at the regular council meeting scheduled for December 4, 2012. At this meeting, Council will discuss the commission recommendations and approve a name for the fields.
According to Rod Buchanan, Director of Parks and Community Services, “The fields at build-out will consist of 166-acres of active sport areas for youth and families to enjoy. The first phase will include 12 baseball fields and 8 soccer fields. The dedication of local leagues in partnership with the City has resulted in a project that ensures the youth of Tracy play on the best and largest multi-sport complex in the region.”
