Downtown Block Party featuring the Sounds of "Down Home Blues"

(TRACY, CA) – Friday, June 8, 2012 the Downtown Block Party features former Tracy resident, Zakiya Hooker, the daughter of the late great Blues legend John Lee Hooker in an evening of blues and brews. The music begins at 6 p.m. at the Downtown Plaza located on 6th and Central Ave.
Zakiya made her musical debut with her father in 1991 at the Kaiser Center Theater in Oakland, CA. Since her debut, Zakiya has continued to perform shows with other artists like Etta James, Charles Brown, Taj Mahal, and many other notable soulful artists. Zakiya is an international performing and toured in cities like, Paris, Amsterdam, London and Switzerland. Zakiya has performed at the world famous Filmore Auditorium, The San Francisco Blues Festival and The Monterey Jazz & Blues Festival.
Hosting an esteemed artist like Zakiya is an honor for the City of Tracy. According to Sarah Jackson, Cinco de Mayo Block Party attendee stated, “Block Parties are great events that the whole family can enjoy. There is a great variety of music from the start of the series to the end. Anyone can find something they like.”
The Downtown Block Party Series will continue throughout the summer. The series is a partnership between the City of Tracy and Tracy City Center Association. All Block Parties are free to the community and are appropriate for guests of all ages. Upcoming themes and entertainment include:
