Government Finance Officers Association AwardPosted: Feb 23, 2012
The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) awarded the City of Tracy a Distinguished Budget Presentation Award.
This award is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting. It represents a significant achievement for the city and reflects the City Councils continuous commitment to the highest principles of government budgeting, accountability and transparency.
The following guidelines assessed how well the city’s budget functions as:
- a policy document
- a financial plan
- an operations guide
- a communications device
Budget documents must be rated proficient in all four categories, and the fourteen mandatory criteria within those categories to receive the distinguished budget presentation award.
According to Mayor Pro Tem Michael Maciel, “The City has a long standing tradition of sound fiscal practices and this award exemplifies that long standing practice and philosophy of being fiscally responsible and transparent.”
The City of Tracy has received the prestigious GFOA honor for the past 21 years. The City of Tracy also received a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting.
GFOA is a non-profit professional association serving nearly 17,400 government finance professionals throughout North America. The GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting.
